Revenue increased. Did profit? A weekly review should identify the SKUs and costs that deserve attention, rather than present one reassuring total. These five questions keep incomplete data visible.
1. How current are the inputs?
Record the period and latest successful import for each source. Orders, payouts and charges can arrive at different times. Label an open week as provisional before comparing it with a closed week.
2. Which SKUs changed the result?
Compare sales, returns and contribution using the same product mapping and cost rules. Separate volume changes from margin per unit. An unknown purchase cost is not zero.
3. Which charges arrived later?
Check fees, delivery, storage and advertising where the source and allocation rules are available. Do not assign a shared expense to one SKU without an explicit method. Keep a reference to the source report for each disputed item.
4. What did returns and stock change?
Returns can affect a later period. Trace the order event chain with our returned-order economics guide. An item awaiting inspection is not necessarily available stock.
5. What action follows?
End with three lists: confirmed changes, unknown amounts and owner-assigned checks. If a SKU sells more but earns less, inspect costs and unit economics before planning another promotion. A chart alone does not prove the cause.
ProfitVena helps analyze available sales, costs, stock and returns under configured accounting rules.
